What is IUI?

In IUI, a prepared, concentrated sample of your partner’s (or donor’s) sperm is placed directly into the uterus using a thin catheter, at the time of ovulation. By delivering sperm closer to the fallopian tubes, IUI improves the chances of fertilisation without the complexity or cost of IVF.

Who is IUI Recommended For?

  • Mild male infertility — mildly low sperm count or motility
  • Unexplained infertility — no clear diagnosis found
  • Ovulation problems — irregular or absent ovulation with stimulation
  • Cervical mucus issues — hostile cervical environment preventing natural fertilisation
  • Single women or same-sex couples using donor sperm
  • Couples who want to try a less invasive treatment before IVF

IUI is generally not recommended if both fallopian tubes are blocked, if sperm count is severely low, or after multiple failed IUI cycles — in which case IVF or ICSI would be advised.

IUI Process at Akanksha IVF Centre

Step 1 – Consultation & Testing

Dr. Nayar reviews your history and performs a semen analysis, hormone tests, and ultrasound to confirm IUI is appropriate for you.

Step 2 – Ovulation Monitoring (or Stimulation)

Either natural ovulation is tracked via ultrasound, or mild hormonal tablets/injections are used to stimulate 1–2 follicles. An hCG injection is given to trigger ovulation precisely.

Step 3 – Sperm Preparation

A sperm sample is collected and processed in our laboratory to select the fastest, healthiest sperm. This “sperm washing” takes about 1–2 hours.

Step 4 – Insemination

A thin, flexible catheter places the prepared sperm directly into the uterus. The procedure takes less than 5 minutes and is painless — similar to a routine gynaecological check-up. You can return to normal activities immediately.

Step 5 – Pregnancy Test

A blood pregnancy test is done 14 days after insemination.

IUI Success Rate

IUI success rates typically range from 10–20% per cycle, depending on age, diagnosis, and sperm quality. Success is often higher in younger women with good ovarian reserve. Most doctors recommend 3–4 IUI cycles before considering IVF if pregnancy has not occurred.

IUI Cost in Delhi

IUI is significantly more affordable than IVF. At Akanksha IVF Centre, IUI cost starts from approximately ₹5,000–₹15,000 per cycle (excluding stimulation medications). Call +91-9810398765 for exact current pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions – IUI Treatment Delhi

Is IUI painful?

No. IUI is a quick, painless procedure similar to a routine internal examination. No anaesthesia is needed. Most patients return to work the same day.

How many IUI cycles should I try before IVF?

Most specialists recommend 3–4 IUI cycles. If pregnancy has not occurred after this, Dr. Nayar will review your case and advise whether to continue IUI or move to IVF/ICSI.

Can IUI work if sperm count is low?

IUI can work for mildly low sperm count. However, if the total motile sperm count (TMSC) after washing is below 5 million, ICSI is generally more effective. Dr. Nayar will advise you based on your semen analysis results.

What is the difference between IUI and IVF?

In IUI, prepared sperm is placed inside the uterus and fertilisation happens naturally inside the body. In IVF, eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilised in the laboratory — outside the body. IVF is more effective but also more complex and costly. IUI is a good first-line option for many couples.
