ICSI Treatment in delhi

ICSI Treatment in Delhi – Akanksha IVF Centre, Janakpuri

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is one of the most effective treatments for male infertility. At Akanksha IVF Centre, Janakpuri, New Delhi, Dr. K.D. Nayar has over 40 years of experience performing ICSI with consistently high fertilisation rates. We perform 600–700 IVF/ICSI cycles annually — making us one of West Delhi’s highest-volume fertility centres.

If you have been told your sperm count is low, motility is poor, or previous IVF cycles had poor fertilisation, ICSI is the solution.

What is ICSI?

In standard IVF, thousands of sperm are placed around an egg and fertilisation happens naturally in the dish. ICSI is different — our embryologist selects a single healthy sperm under a high-powered microscope and injects it directly into the egg. This bypasses most male infertility barriers and dramatically improves fertilisation rates.

When is ICSI Recommended?

  • Low sperm count (oligospermia) — fewer than 15 million sperm per ml
  • Poor sperm motility (asthenospermia) — sperm not swimming properly
  • Abnormal sperm shape (teratospermia)
  • No sperm in ejaculate (azoospermia) — sperm retrieved via TESA/PESA
  • Previous IVF cycles with poor or zero fertilisation
  • High sperm DNA fragmentation
  • Frozen or surgically retrieved sperm being used
  • Unexplained infertility with multiple failed IUI cycles

ICSI Treatment Process at Akanksha IVF Centre

Step 1 – Sperm Preparation

Your sperm sample is prepared in our laboratory using Microfluidic Sperm Sorting (MFSS) — a next-generation technology that selects the healthiest, most DNA-intact sperm without mechanical damage. This is significantly better than traditional sperm washing methods.

Step 2 – Egg Retrieval

Eggs are retrieved from the ovaries after stimulation (same as standard IVF). The procedure is done under mild sedation and takes 20–30 minutes.

Step 3 – Microinjection

Our experienced embryologist injects a single selected sperm directly into each mature egg under a specialised inverted microscope. Fertilisation is confirmed 16–18 hours later.

Step 4 – Embryo Culture with Time-Lapse Imaging

Fertilised eggs are cultured in our incubators with Time-Lapse Embryo Imaging — monitoring development every few minutes without disturbing the embryo. The best embryo is selected for transfer on Day 3 or Day 5.

Step 5 – Embryo Transfer & Pregnancy Test

The selected embryo is transferred into the uterus — a painless 10-minute procedure. A pregnancy blood test is done 14 days later.

ICSI vs IVF – What is the Difference?

In standard IVF, fertilisation happens naturally in the lab dish. In ICSI, a single sperm is physically injected into the egg. ICSI is recommended when male infertility is a factor, or when previous IVF had poor fertilisation. The rest of the process — stimulation, egg retrieval, embryo transfer — is identical to standard IVF.

Frequently Asked Questions – ICSI Treatment Delhi

Is ICSI better than IVF?

ICSI is not necessarily “better” than IVF for everyone — it is specifically recommended when there is a male infertility factor or poor fertilisation history. For couples with normal sperm, standard IVF gives equally good results. Dr. Nayar will advise you which is right for your case during consultation.

What is the ICSI success rate in Delhi?

ICSI success rates depend on the woman’s age, egg quality, sperm quality, and the embryologist’s skill. At Akanksha IVF Centre, our experienced team and advanced laboratory technology deliver consistently strong fertilisation rates. Book a consultation for a personalised estimate.

Can ICSI help if my husband has zero sperm (azoospermia)?

Yes. If there is no sperm in the ejaculate, we perform TESA or PESA — minor surgical procedures to retrieve sperm directly from the testis or epididymis. This sperm is then used for ICSI. Learn about TESA/PESA →

How long does ICSI treatment take?

A complete ICSI cycle takes 4–6 weeks from your initial consultation to the pregnancy test.

Is ICSI safe for the baby?

Yes. Decades of research and millions of ICSI babies worldwide confirm it is a safe procedure. The risk of birth defects is comparable to natural conception.
