Donor Insemination (DI) is a safe, effective, and confidential fertility treatment where screened donor sperm is used to achieve pregnancy — either through IUI (intrauterine insemination) or IVF/ICSI. At Akanksha IVF Centre, Janakpuri, New Delhi, we provide fully ICMR-compliant donor insemination with strict medical screening, complete confidentiality, and compassionate support throughout the process.

Who is Donor Insemination For?

  • Severe male infertility — azoospermia where surgical retrieval (TESA/PESA) is not possible or has failed
  • Genetic conditions in the male partner — where passing on a serious hereditary disorder is a concern
  • Recurrent IVF/ICSI failure due to consistently poor sperm quality
  • Single women wishing to conceive
  • Same-sex female couples
  • Rhesus incompatibility in rare selected cases

Donor Sperm – Screening & Safety

All donor sperm used at Akanksha IVF Centre comes from ICMR-licensed sperm banks. Every donor undergoes rigorous screening including:

  • Complete semen analysis including morphology and DNA fragmentation
  • Full STI panel — HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia
  • Genetic screening — karyotype, cystic fibrosis, thalassaemia carrier status
  • General health examination and family history review
  • Psychological assessment
  • All samples quarantined for 6 months and retested before release for use

Donor identity is completely anonymous and confidential, in compliance with Indian ART laws. Basic non-identifying characteristics (height, complexion, blood group, education level) are matched to the recipient couple where possible.

Donor Insemination Procedure

DI with IUI (Most Common)

Prepared donor sperm is placed directly into the uterus at the time of ovulation — either in a natural cycle or with mild hormonal stimulation. This is the simplest, least invasive, and most affordable method. The procedure takes 5 minutes and is painless.

DI with IVF or ICSI

When the woman has additional fertility issues (blocked tubes, poor ovarian reserve, PCOS, age-related factors), donor sperm is used in a standard IVF or ICSI cycle. Eggs are retrieved from the woman, fertilised with donor sperm in the laboratory, and the embryo is transferred into the uterus.

Legal & Ethical Aspects of Donor Insemination in India

Donor insemination in India is governed by the ART (Regulation) Act 2021 and ICMR guidelines. Key points:

  • Donor identity is legally anonymous — the child or parents cannot claim parental rights of the donor
  • The child born is legally considered the child of the couple who underwent treatment
  • One donor can contribute to a maximum of 25 live births in India
  • Both partners must give written informed consent before treatment
  • All procedures must be performed at ICMR-registered ART clinics

Akanksha IVF Centre is fully registered and compliant with all ART regulations in India.

Frequently Asked Questions – Donor Insemination Delhi

Is donor insemination kept confidential?

Yes, completely. Donor identity is anonymous by law in India. Your treatment details are kept strictly confidential within our clinic. No one outside our team will know unless you choose to tell them.

Can I choose characteristics of the donor?

You can specify basic non-identifying characteristics such as blood group, height, and complexion. We match these as closely as possible. Detailed personal information about the donor is not available under Indian ART law.

What is the success rate of donor insemination?

DI-IUI success rates are 10–20% per cycle, similar to standard IUI. DI used in IVF has higher success rates, depending on the woman’s age, egg quality, and uterine factors. Most couples are advised to try 3 DI-IUI cycles before considering DI-IVF.

Is donor insemination legal in India?

Yes. Donor insemination is fully legal in India for married couples and single women at ICMR-registered clinics, under the ART (Regulation) Act 2021. Akanksha IVF Centre is fully registered and compliant.
